Evolve Rolfing & Wellness

Facilitating Evolution of Mind, Body, and Spirit

What to expect

Rolfing is conventionally done as a ten- step series. This is a highly individualized formula that maximizes the body's ability to integrate change toward structural integration. Each session builds on the results of the previous one, so results are cumulative. Further sessions ("tune-ups") are often sought as the body may experience injury or stress.

The work is somewhat similar to massage, in that it is done on a table or a bench using my hands, fingers, forearms and elbows. Occasionally I will call for movement and/ or breath participation.

Females typically wear a bra and underwear or a two piece swimsuit during their sessions. Males wear underwear, or running shorts work well. Sports bras and boxer shorts are discouraged because they provide coverage that is not always gracefully moved aside. Time and privacy is given to change/undress.

I offer free consultations; a chance for us to meet and talk more about how Rolfing can help you specifically. Sessions typically last an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes and are spaced one to three weeks apart, depending on time and financial concerns. Sessions cost $95 each.

Who does Rolfing help?

Rolfing helps everyone, babies to elders, even animals, because everyone is subject to gravity. Here are just a few of the many reasons people seek rolfing:

  • postural conditions: poor posture, hyperlordosis, kyphosis, scoliosis

  • chronic musculoskeletal conditions such as back pain, neck pain, joint restrictions, and chronic tension

  • headaches;stress or tension

  • syndromes; sciatica, carpal tunnel, and thoracic-outlet

  • stress

  • limited range of motion or flexibility

  • poor coordination

  • after-effects of old physical and emotional trauma

  • occupational injuries such as repetitive stress issues (RSI) or back problems

  • car or any other type of accidents

  • to improve quality of life and feel years younger

  • to improve athletic performance from yoga to football

  • bodyworkers or anyone looking to invest in and maintain their body for their work or lifestyle.

How does it feel?

Every session is unique and addresses your specific physical patterns, involving manipulation of fascia at varying depths in the body. The sensations can range from mild to strong and from pleasurable to momentary discomfort. At times there may be little sensation at all.

Within the first few sessions you will likely feel a release of tension. People often report feeling taller and more balanced. Sometimes the effects build more gradually, with an increasing fluidity of movement, greater sense of ease, and increased alertness and energy.

Rolfing is losing its reputation of being painful. Over time the work has become gentler with more refined techniques. Rolfers are taught to listen tactiley to what is happening in the body and work with this information, closely monitoring the level of comfort in the client. While Rolfers are watching for signs that there is too much discomfort, please feel free to communicate with us as well.
